MOSCOW, May 27 (Sputnik) - Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah said on Sunday that he was confident he would recover in time for this summer's FIFA World Cup in Russia and join his team at the tournament.
"It was a very tough night, but I'm a fighter. Despite the odds, I'm confident that I'll be in Russia to make you all proud. Your love and support will give me the strength I need," Salah posted on his Instagram.
The 25-year-old forward was forced off the field in the first half of the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday following a challenge from Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos. Liverpool lost the match 3-1, as Real Madrid won the competition for the third successive year.
Earlier on Sunday Egyptian Sports Minister Khaled Abd Elaziz said that Salah had damaged ligaments in his shoulder, but he was expected to recover in the next two weeks and make it into Egypt's final 23-man squad.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will take place between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities. Egypt will face the hosts Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in Group A. Their first match will be against Uruguay on June 15.
