Serbia midfielder Nemanja Matic said on Thursday that Switzerland, who they will meet in Kaliningrad in their second Group E match on Friday, are a stronger side than any of the teams they faced in the World Cup qualifiers.
"We know what to expect from tomorrow’s match. Switzerland has a lot of strong players, but we are prepared. We respect each other on the pitch and follow our coach’s instructions. I think Switzerland are stronger than any of the teams we faced in the qualifiers," Matic told journalists.
He added that his team knows that a win in the match with Switzerland would guarantee them a place in the next round and "they will do their best" to make that happen.
Serbia beat Costa Rica 1-0 in Samara on Sunday, while Switzerland earned a credible draw against Brazil in their first matches of the tournament.
Serbia are currently top of the group, followed by five-times World Cup champions Brazil and Switzerland who are in second with one point each.
