France forward Kylian Mbappe said on Friday that he was “not ashamed” of his ambitions, and that his team were ready and wanted to win the World Cup.
France beat Uruguay 2-0 in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the competition, while Uruguay have been eliminated from the tournament.
“We were mostly playing in defense today, we will attack more in the semi-final. We will put all our energy into the semi-final. Will we win the tournament? I am not ashamed of my ambitions, we are ready and want to win the tournament,” Mbappe told journalists.
The 19-year-old has already netted three goals for his side at the tournament, two of them during the 4-3 win against Argentina on June 30. Mbappe became the first player under the age of 20 to score twice in a single match of the tournament since Brazil legend Pele set the record in the 1958 World Cup final against Sweden.
France will face Belgium or Brazil in the semi-final on 10 July.
