Argentina forward Lionel Messi became the first player to miss a penalty at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, as his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Iceland.
Messi missed from the spot in the 64th minute of Argentina’s match at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Saturday, as Iceland’s goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson saved the shot.
This is the fourth penalty awarded at the 2018 World Cup and the first one which was not converted.
