A fan from Mexico was sold a fake ticket to his national team's World Cup match against Germany for US$800 (AUD $1075), say Russian police.
Mexico stunned reigning champions Germany 1-0 in the teams' first World Cup match at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Sunday.
"The taxi driver said that there was a Mexican citizen in his car, who, according to him, was sold a fake ticket for the match between Germany and Mexico an hour before the game," the source said.
The fan did not lodge a complaint with the police but the taxi driver reported the alleged incident, which is now being investigated.
