"I would give it a positive mark," Samedov said when asked to evaluate the week he had spent with the Russian team in Austria.

The 33-year-old was named in head coach Stanislav Cherchesov's preliminary squad for this summer's tournament earlier in May.

"Right now we are doing pretty much the same work as under [head coach] Cherchesov a year ago, before the FIFA Confederations Cup; back then the whole team felt good [about it]. You can recall the result and come to a conclusion that it was not very obvious, but I would say that we played decently as compared to all the rivals we played with," Samedov said.

Russia finished third in their group at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup behind Portugal and Mexico and failed to reach the knockout stage.

The 33-year-old Samedov has been playing for the national team since 2011 earning a total of 46 caps, including three group-stage matches against Belgium, Algeria and South Korea at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Russian national team will be based in Neustift until May 31, with two friendlies scheduled ahead of the World Cup – a match with Austria in Innsbruck on May 30, and a game with Turkey in Moscow on June 5.

Russia is set to host its first-ever FIFA World Cup at 12 stadiums across 11 cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi, from June 14 to July 15. The host nation will face Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
