Croatia midfielder and captain Luka Modric deserves to be awarded the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball as the best player of this summer's tournament, says former Russia head coach Boris Ignatyev.
Croatia beat England 2-1 in extra time to reach their first-ever World Cup final.
Their 32-year-old captain has scored two goals so far at the tournament, starting for Croatia in all of their six matches.
"In my opinion, Modric is the best player of the tournament from the point of view of his intelligence, creativity and the ability to lead the team. He really appeals to me. I think those responsible for choosing the tournament's best player have already made their choice but in this case I would vote for Modric," Ignatyev said.
Croatia will take on 1998 champions France in the final, which will played in Moscow on Monday morning AEST.
