Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric said Friday that there are never any favorites in the opening matches of the World Cup, as his side prepare to face Nigeria in Kaliningrad on Saturday.
"We know what are the qualities of Nigeria. Currently they may be the best African team. They have very fast players. In the opening game there can be no favorites. It will be a 50/50 game and this is how we will approach the game. Maybe other people favor us to be but we are not thinking about it, we are focused as much as possible on our game plan," Modric told journalists.
Croatia were drawn in Group D and will face Nigeria on 16 June, Argentina on 21 June and Iceland on 26 June.
