Japan head coach Akira Nishino said on Monday that the earthquake in the western Japan city of Osaka might have a psychological impact on his players ahead of their first 2018 World Cup match against Colombia.
A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the northern part of the Osaka prefecture on Monday, leaving three people dead and more than 350 injured.
"There was a big earthquake in Osaka and some of our players were shocked by the incident. They were concerned about their relatives; some were affected by all of it psychologically. It's something that I'm worried about at this point. But the coaching staff and I are holding consulting sessions and try to calm the players down," Nishino told journalists.
Japan will face Colombia in their opening World Cup Group H match in the Russian city of Saransk on Tuesday.
