NIZHNY NOVGOROD, May 25 (Sputnik) - Aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, which are not equipped with the correct communication systems, will be banned from flying within a radius of 110 kilometers (68.4 miles) around Nizhny Novgorod during the FIFA World Cup, the city administration's press service said on Friday.
The Russian Transport Ministry has prohibited flights within a 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) radius of the World Cup stadiums and the base camps where the World Cup teams will be staying.
“The larger restriction area will be within a radius of 110 kilometers (68.4 miles) around the 11 host cities... This area will only apply to aircraft and drones, which are not equipped with the correct communication systems or the necessary transponders. Any other unregulated use of this surrounding airspace will also be prohibited,” the press service said in a statement.
The airspace restrictions above the host cities will start on June 1 and will remain in force through the duration of the World Cup until July 17.
Russia's first-ever World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country.
