Hosts Russia were eliminated from the tournament when Croatia defeated them on penalties after a 2-2 draw after extra time in Sochi on Sunday (AEST).

Reaching the quarter-finals is Russia's best result in a World Cup since the break-up of the Soviet Union.

"I have many disadvantages, even more than advantages. I never regret the decisions I've made. If I make a decision, I need to do my best," Cherchesov said.

"Those who were named in the national team are the best for one reason or another. I don't want to lecture how the team is being built. You look at the names, and we pay attention to other things."

Cherchesov said he was not sure if he would be able to lead Russia to the same results at the 2022 World Cup.

"I don't even look four days in advance, it's only China where they think in terms of five-year plans. We'll talk in four years," he added.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final set to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
