ST. PETERSBURG, May 26 (Sputnik) - The number of tourists visiting Moscow will increase by at least 10 percent next year due to the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia this summer, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Saturday.
"Moscow will be written and spoken about, it will be filmed. On the whole, in my opinion, the World Cup will increase the flow of tourists in Moscow by at least 10 percent as early as next year," Sobyanin said in an interview with the Russian business TV channel RBC at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to the mayor, this means the city budget will receive up to 15 billion rubles ($241 million) annually.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15 in 11 cities across the country. Moscow will host a total 12 matches across the two arenas, including the opening game and the final.
