Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa said on Sunday that the team surpassed themselves after beating reigning World Cup holders Germany 1-0.
Hirving Lozano scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute. The defeat to Mexico was the first time Germany have lost their opening match at the World Cup since 1982.
“We are glad to have gained three points in such a big game against a very strong opponent" Ochoa said post-match.
"You need to give credit to all the players, we were great in defense and great in attack. When you play against the reigning World Cup holder, you need to show more than you are capable of, and we managed to do that."
Mexico will face South Korea in Rostov-on-Don on 24 June, while Germany will play Sweden in Sochi on the same day.
