Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio said Saturday that his team "could compete" with reigning champions Germany at their first 2018 World Cup match, which will take place at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
"[Toni] Kroos and [Sami] Khedira are our two central midfielders of a top-level... And I will not be the one to discover that they [Germany] are very good at distributing the ball, but nevertheless we can compete with them... We have a good chance to meet up the best team... and try to go head-to-head against them," Osorio told journalists.
He added that Germany had a good attack, and played effectively.
"But we are not going to change our style of play, we will always fight them on an equal footing. Our players need to understand that they should take advantage of this huge opportunity to play with the world champions... and win, because I believe that we have it [this opportunity]," Osorio said.
Mexico are also set to face Sweden and South Korea in their group stage matches.
