Over 2.8 million Muscovites watched the World Cup match between Russia and Spain, which was broadcast live on Russia-1 TV channel.
Hosts Russia knocked 2010 World Cup winners Spain out of the tournament to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991.
According to a survey conducted by the Mediascope research company, a total of 2,804,000 Muscovites aged four and older watched the match, while 5,144,000 people based in the Russian capital watched the broadcast for at least a minute.
