Over 300,000 people have signed a petition at the change.org online platform calling on UEFA and FIFA to punish Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos for "intentionally hurting" Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah.
Salah was substituted in the 31st minute of the Champions League 3-1 loss to Real Madrid on Saturday, after suffering a dislocated shoulder in a clash with Real captain Ramos.
"Sergio Ramos intentionally kept Mohamed Salah's arm under his armpit, causing dislocation of his shoulder. Not only missing the rest of the game, but also missing the FIFA World Cup 2018… Sergio Ramos represents an awful example to future generations of football players," the petition reads.
It appeals to UEFA and FIFA asking the organisations to take measures against Ramos to "keep the spirit of the game."
Salah, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season, was included in Egypt’s preliminary squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, but the injury cast doubts over his participation in the tournament.
Ramos, who will captain Spain in Russia, has wished Salah a speedy recovery.
Russia will host its first-ever FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, the matches will take place at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across the country. Egypt will face Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia in Group A.
