"Russians' interest in the World Cup matches is sustained: a total of 64% of respondents watched our team's first game, a total of 61% watched the second game, and a total of 62% watched the third," the pollster said.

Russia kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 5-0 drubbing of Saudi Arabia before beating Egypt 3-1 to book a spot in the knockout stage.

The hosts then lost 3-0 to Uruguay in their final Group A game.

According to the poll, more than a quarter of the respondents (27%) watch the World Cup matches regularly, while 35% only follow the games of the Russian national team.

The poll was conducted among 1,600 respondents aged 18 or older on Tuesday.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 16, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
