Panama lacked belief in themselves to score against Belgium in their first World Cup game on Monday, midfielder Gabriel Gomez said Monday.
The game, held at the Fisht arena in Sochi, ended with Belgium winning 3-0.
“We lacked concentration and self-belief. Belgium is a very good, strong opponent, and we unfortunately lacked belief that we could score,” Gomez told reporters, adding that the team was still overwhelmed with emotions and would “fight until the very end.”
Panama are set to face England and Tunisia on 24 June and 28 respectively.
