MOSCOW, June 7 (Sputnik) - Panama midfielder Alberto Quintero, who plays for Peruvian side Universitario, will miss the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia due to a foot injury, the Panamanian Football Federation said on Thursday.
Quintero was included in Panama's final World Cup squad but has fractured his foot during the preparations for the tournament.
"Alberto Quintero is out for Panama at the FIFA World Cup due to a fracture in the second metatarsal of the right foot," the federation said via Twitter.
According to the federation, Quintero will be replaced by 21-year-old Ghent II midfielder Ricardo Avila.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup will take place at 12 stadiums across 11 cities from June 14 to July 15. Panama, who have qualified for the World Cup for the first time, will play Belgium, Tunisia and England in Group G.
