Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio has moved to the English side Wolverhampton Wanderers, the club said on its official website on Monday.
The 2016 European champion has signed a four-year contract with Wolves, who were promoted to the Premier League last season.
Earlier, media reported that Patricio unilaterally terminated the contract with Sporting Lisbon. The goalkeeper sent a letter to the club, informing them about termination of the contract, referring to it as a “fair motive." The 30-year-old's transfer from Sporting may be related to the recent fan attack aimed at the Lions' staff and players, including Patricio. A total of 23 people were arrested after the incident.
Currently Patricio plays for Portugal at the FIFA World Cup in Russia. The team held 2010 World Cup winners Spain to 3-3 draw on Friday, and will later face two other Group B opponents, Morocco and Iran.
