The Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland agreed to sustain Guerrero's appeal to freeze the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) 14-month doping ban, according to the court's statement posted on the federation's official Twitter account.

In December 2017, FIFA banned Guerrero for one year for failing a doping test with the FIFA Appeal Committee later reducing the sanction to six months.

The Peru forward and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) both later appealed to CAS with Guerrero hoping for the ban to be fully lifted and WADA asking for the penalty to be extended. CAS agreed to extend the ban to 14 months, meaning Guerrero would only be able to return to the pitch in 2019.

Guerrero then made an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland asking to halt his suspension so that he would be able to play at this summer's World Cup.

Earlier on Thursday, CAS said that it would not protest against Guerrero's latest appeal.

The 34-year-old have netted 33 goals in 87 matches for Peru since his international debut in 2004.

Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15 in 11 host cities. Peru will face France, Denmark and Australia in Group C.
