The Peruvian Embassy in Russia is closely watching the situation around a football fan detained on suspicion of theft in Moscow earlier on Friday, a spokesperson for the embassy told Sputnik.
“The embassy is dealing with the issue, but, in accordance with the established practice, does not comment on such cases until all legal issues are settled,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier in the day, the Public Oversight Commission said that the 40-year-old Peruvian woman had been detained in Moscow on suspicion of a wallet theft. Later, the commission reported that the woman had been placed in a temporary detention facility.
Public Oversight Commission members have already visited the Peruvian citizen in the detention facility where she has been kept with a Spanish-speaking cellmate, and intend to discuss the case with the Peruvian Embassy.
