France salvaged a 2-1 win over Australia in their first match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia on Saturday after midfielder Paul Pogba scored a late winner for his team.
France striker Antoine Griezmann opened the score from the penalty spot in the 58th minute after Uruguayan referee Andres Cunha used the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to decide on the penalty for the first time in the tournament's history.
Australia captain Mile Jedinak equalized just four minutes later converting another penalty, and Pogba put France back in front in the 80th minute.
The teams will face Peru and Denmark in the upcoming Group C matches.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday and will continue until July 15, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia.
