Russia have achieved their minimum target by qualifying from Group A, according to former Soviet striker and Olympic head coach Valery Gazzaev.
Russia beat Egypt 3-1 in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday and are now top of the group with six points from two games. Denis Chernyshev and Artem Dzyuba each scored for the team, while Egypt's defender Ahmed Fathy netted an own goal.
They are almost certain to reach the round of 16 if Uruguay avoid defeat against Saudi Arabia on tonight.
"We qualified from the group, thus, achieving the minimum target ahead of time. We played two games at a very high level, with good result," Gazzaev said.
They are likely to meet Spain or Portugal in the knockout stage.
"This is going to be some serious football," Gazzaev said.
