Rental cost of private apartments in Saransk, where the price of a temporary accommodation was the highest among World Cup host cities in May, decreased right before the tournament, Head of Russia's Republic of Mordovia, of which Saransk is the capital, Vladimir Volkov told Sputnik on Thursday.
Volkov said that prices of Saransk hotels services corresponded to the Russian government's resolution, being lower than in Moscow and other World Cup host cities. However, some landlords offer overpriced services on rental websites, despite the local government's contracts signed with a thousand apartment owners, who should follow the rental cost regulations. Mordovia's head noted that "these are the isolated incidents, now prices indeed decreased."
"On the one hand, the market has adjusted [rental cost]: there are many offers with more favorable terms. On the other hand, probably, our appeals have also influenced," he added.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities, with a total of four group-stage matches set to be held in Saransk.
