The match, which was held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, resulted in a Russia victory on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 after extra time, but Russia managed to beat Spain 4-3 on penalties, with Akinfeev saving Koke's and Iago Aspas’ penalties.

"We are incredibly happy that the whole country is proud of us. We made a fest for ourselves and for everyone. We believed in ourselves till the end," Dzyuba told journalists.

Russia have reached their first-ever World Cup quarter-finals since the break-up of the Soviet Union and will face the winner of Croatia and Denmark’s encounter. The quarterfinal will take place at Fisht Stadium in Sochi on 7 July.
