Russia forward Artem Dzyuba said on Sunday that the team believed in themselves until the end in their World Cup Round of 16 match against Spain.
The match, which was held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, resulted in a Russia victory on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 after extra time, but Russia managed to beat Spain 4-3 on penalties, with Akinfeev saving Koke's and Iago Aspas’ penalties.
"We are incredibly happy that the whole country is proud of us. We made a fest for ourselves and for everyone. We believed in ourselves till the end," Dzyuba told journalists.
Russia have reached their first-ever World Cup quarter-finals since the break-up of the Soviet Union and will face the winner of Croatia and Denmark’s encounter. The quarterfinal will take place at Fisht Stadium in Sochi on 7 July.
