NEUSTIFT IM STUBAITAL, May 25 (Sputnik) - FC Krasnodar and Russia forward Fedor Smolov, who is currently at the training camp in Austria with Russia's preliminary FIFA World Cup squad, began training with the rest of the team after recovering from a minor calf injury, the team said Friday.
The 28-year-old sustained a calf bruise during the training session on Tuesday and had been training individually since Wednesday.
“Fedor Smolov has started training with the team,” the Russian team posted on Twitter.
Smolov was the Russian Premier League’s top goalscorer in 2016 and 2017 and has been capped 30 times for Russia, scoring 12 international goals since his senior debut in 2012.
The Russian squad will be training in the Austrian town of Neustift ahead of the pre-World Cup friendly with Austria in Innsbruck on May 30, and will head home on May 31.
Russia will host the FIFA World Cup for the first time from June 14 to July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities. The hosts are set to play Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
