MOSCOW, July 15 (Sputnik) - Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup was brilliant, World Cup Ambassador Victoria Lopyreva told Sputnik on Sunday.
France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday, securing their second title.
"The World Cup was brilliant, and this opinion is not only from the Russian side, but of the World Cup Ambassador. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also believes so, and several days ago he said that the World Cup in Russia was the best in history. There were an incredible atmosphere, amazing emotions. I have never seen Moscow so smiling, friendly and speaking different languages. I really want this to remain with us after the tournament so that people would welcome guests from all over the world positively," Lopyreva said.
The World Cup Ambassador and Miss Russia 2003 added that she had supported France in the match.
"The final was interesting. I supported France and congratulate the team on their victory with all my heart. Both finalists played well. The fearlessness of the French team defeated Croatians' enthusiasm. And [France forward] Kylian Mbappe is a star of this World Cup," Lopyreva said.
Mbappe, who is 19 years old, won the FIFA Young Player award and became only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final.
Russia's first-ever FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and came to a close on Sunday with 64 games played in 11 cities across the country.
