If Russia don’t win, then I hope they will become champions. I feel good being part of the Russian squad and I am getting fitter and improving with every day,” Cheryshev told journalists.

22-year-old midfielder has close links to Spain, where he grew up while his father Dmitry - former professional footballer - played for Sporting de Gijon club.

The World Cup will be held in 11 cities across the country from June 14 to July 15. Russia is set to play against Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
