NEUSTIFT IM STUBAITAL, May 28 (Sputnik) - CSKA Moscow and Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev said Monday that he was in great shape and fully ready for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Dzagoev, named in Russia's preliminary squad currently training in Austria ahead of this summer's tournament , returned to full training less than a week ago after recovering from a calf muscle injury but had a pack of ice strapped to his left leg after the training session earlier on Monday.
"There is nothing serious, just a precaution. I've regained physical fitness, I feel fine, I am 100 percent ready [for the World Cup]. Why so many injuries lately? After 2016 I got a fracture and I entered a new season poorly, missed the training camp. Then there was a hamstring injury, Achilles tendon [injury]. I hope for the best. It's been better recently," Dzagoev said.
The 27-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 55 matches for Russia, added that he was currently playing in the center but was free to move around the pitch.
"We don't have restrictions regarding our positions. In defense you help in the back, in attack you work up front. I don't see any problem that there is no defensive midfielder proper, as many of us have played in this position," Dzagoev said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
