Zenit St. Petersburg and Russia midfielder Yuri Zhirkov has signed a new one-year contract with Zenit, the club announced on Saturday.
“The agreement… is set until the end of the 2018/19 season,” Zenit said in a statement published on their official website.
The 34-year-old has made 67 appearances scoring two goals for Zenit since 2016. He has been capped 84 times for Russia.
Zhirkov has been named in Russia’s World Cup squad and limped out of training on Saturday. However, the Russian Football Union announced that Zhirkov was not suffering from an injury and his participation in the World Cup was not in danger.
Russia will host the World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities, with the host nation facing Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in Group A.
