"From the organizers' point of view, Russia's World Cup turned out to be a success... Our national team delivered brilliant performance... We were pleasantly surprised with the 98 per cent attendance rate at the matches. We showed to the whole world that we love football and we are the country of football," Sorokin told journalists.

He added that there were no incidents recorded at the World Cup venues and all services successfully carried out their duties showing some astonishing statistics.

"All services coped well. The transport system did very well. We've got the 'frightening' numbers: airports 'processed' a total of 15 Mln passengers during the World Cup, it's mind-blowing. Over 300,000 passengers used the free trains. Around 7 Mln people attended the Fan fests. Our guests are happy and returning home with warm feelings," Sorokin said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will come to a close on Sunday, with France facing Croatia in the final, which will be played at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
