The Russian Premier League season ended on 13 May, with Rubin finishing 10th. The 31 year-old defender was later called up to the national team by head coach Stanislav Cherchesov and has been training with the squad ahead of the tournament since 18 May.

"I haven't read any football news after the end of the Premier League season, only watched the NHL,” Kudryashov told journalists.

On Thursday, the Washington Capitals, captained by Russian star winger Alexander Ovechkin, defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in the NHL finals to lift the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.

“We didn’t watch the match since it was broadcast late at night. But we watched the recap in the morning. I didn't congratulate anyone, because I don't know anybody personally, but followed the entire season," he said.

Kudryashov has been capped 19 times for Russia since his senior debut in 2016 and played in the team's last warm-up friendlies against Austria and Turkey, which Russia lost 1-0 and drew 1-1 respectively.
