Russia "will be even more elated" after defeating Spain in their round of 16 game, the CEO of the Russia 2018 Local Organizing Committee Alexey Sorokin said Sunday.
Russia defeated Spain 4-3 in the penalty shootout after the main and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.
“All the boys are happy, I think now the team will be even more elated. We can see how they are fighting, how motivated they are… Every tournament brings surprises, ours is not an exception. We are sorry for everyone who lost, but the results are unpredictable,” Sorokin told reporters.
In the quarter-final game on 7 July, Russia will face Croatia or Denmark.
