ST. PETERSBURG, May 25 (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Russia would do everything possible to make this summer's FIFA World Cup a festival for the fans, the visitors and the footballers, so that everyone has an enjoyable stay in Russia during the tournament.
"I would really like it [the World Cup] to be a festive occasion for those who love sports, for the players and for our guests. We will do everything to make the supporters and players feel at home," Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
He added that "the best team will win," while also praising the organizers who have done a great job in "organizing this wonderful festival" for everyone.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will take place between June 14 and July 15 at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities. Russia will face Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group A.
