MOSCOW, May 30 (Sputnik) - Russian federal health and epidemic watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has vaccinated all of the volunteers and personnel who will work at the upcoming FIFA World Cup against flu, measles and other infections, Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova told journalists Wednesday,
"All decreed groups who will be engaged in the process have been vaccinated ahead of the tournament. Special attention is paid to vaccinating volunteers, personnel and transport workers according to the national vaccination schedule. These people will be vaccinated against a variety of infections including flu," Popova said.
She added that the Southern hemisphere is currently undergoing a surge in flu cases and since many teams and tourists will come from these regions, the service is paying extra attention to flu vaccination and taking every precaution to avoid epidemics.
Russia's first-ever World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 at 12 arenas in 11 cities across the country. Teams will play in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Yekaterinburg.
