“The opening ceremony will be a grand event, very bright and beautiful… I’m sure everything will be held on a high level. I love football, so I’m very happy… that I was chosen to represent Russia at the opening ceremony of our home tournament,” Garifullina told journalists.

The World Cup kicks off in Moscow on Thursday, with Vienna State Opera soloist Garifullina set to perform with UK pop singer Robbie Williams at the opening ceremony held ahead of the first match between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia.

“Unfortunately, my tour schedule doesn’t allow me to visit all the World Cup matches, although I’d be happy [to do it]. After the opening match I plan to visit only one game in Kazan so far,” Garifullina added.

The World Cup will be held at 12 venues in 11 Russian cities from June 14 to July 15.
