The Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva will open a 2018 FIFA World Cup fan zone at the UN headquarters at the Palace of Nations, the head of the mission, Gennady Gatilov, said on Friday.
“In just a week, the main sporting event of the year, the 21st World Cup, will kick off in Russia I would like to take the opportunity and inform you that the Russian mission, with the support of other countries, will organise live broadcasts of the World Cup matches at the Palace of Nations," Gatilov said at the reception in honor of Russia Day.
The fan zone is set to be located in a coffee bar at the Palace of Nations. On 14 June, football fans will be able to watch the opening ceremony of the World Cup and the game between hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia on the big screen, with the mission providing free beer.
