According to the press service, Matvienko will hold meetings with the region's governor, local executive and legislative authorities and will visit the World Cup facilities, including the Mordovia Arena.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday with the Russian national team having beaten Saudi Arabia with the score of 5-0. The tournament will continue through July 15, with a total of 64 matches set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.

Saransk will host four group-stage matches, starting with the game between Peru and Denmark on Saturday.
