ST. PETERSBURG, May 25 (Sputnik) - The money Russia has invested in developing its infrastructure ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup will pay dividends, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Arkady Dvorkovich said on Friday.
"We are expecting the World Cup infrastructure to pay dividends. It will not happen in the near future, but it will certainly happen," Dvorkovich said during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
According to Dvorkovich, the infrastructure and facilities created and developed for the World Cup are the "best in the world," and they will be in use for the next 20 to 30 years.
“Russia’s victory at the World Cup will be in terms of developing sports, infrastructure in general, and developing the country,” Dvorkovich added.
Russia will host the 2018 FIFA World Cup from June 14 to July 15, with the games set to be held at 12 arenas in 11 cities.
SPIEF is a major global platform for communication between business representatives and the discussion of crucial economic issues. The event started on Thursday and will continue through Saturday.
