ST. PETERSBURG, May 26 (Sputnik) - The FIFA World Cup Trophy will arrive in St. Petersburg for the seventh stop on its pre-tournament tour of Russia on Saturday and will stay there for one week, the tour organizers said on Saturday.
The welcoming ceremony of the iconic prize will be held at St. Petersburg's central Palace Square during City Day celebration.
According to the St. Petersburg Sports Committee, the trophy will be present at Monday's media conference where former Italy defender Marco Materazzi and Russian singer Zara, who is a World Cup Ambassador and UNESCO Artist for Peace, will take part.
From May 29 to June 2, the gold award will be put on display in the Maritime Victory Park on St. Petersburg's Krestovsky Island.
St. Petersburg will be the seventh stop on the World Cup Trophy's tour across the country, following the stops in Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Kazan, and Rostov-on-Don. On June 3, it will head for Moscow, which will be the last stop on its journey.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in Moscow in September. The trophy visited 16 Russian cities before the international part of the tour began in London in January. It then traveled to a total of 51 countries.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
