"The rainy weather did not bring any of the football fans down and did not affect the public transport operation. Some 145 shuttle buses circulating on six routes transferred 30,000 spectators after the Russia-Egypt match," the service said in a statement.

According to the statement, the buses connecting St. Petersburg's city center and the airport were operating until 5 a.m. local time, while the city's metro also extended its usual hours till 2 a.m.

Russia beat Egypt 3-1 in their second World Cup match in St. Petersburg to all but secure a spot in the knockout stage of the tournament.

The World Cup will continue until July 15, with the matches set to be played across 11 Russian cities. The hosts will take on Uruguay in Samara on June 25 in their final Group A game.
