According to the statement published on the Spanish police's official website, two of the six officers deployed in Russia are working at the international police center in Domodedovo, just outside Moscow, another three will be present at matches, and one more accompanies the Spain squad.

Employees of the Spanish Consulate General will also be present at every game of the national team to assist Spanish nationals if any documentation problems should arise.

The Spanish police also worked at other major sporting events, such as the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, UEFA Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland.

Spain, who won their only World Cup in South Africa in 2010, have been drawn in Group B alongside reigning European champions Portugal, Morocco and Iran.
