England head coach Gareth Southgate said on Sunday he was happy that his players did not lose their self-control in the match with Panama despite the hot weather.
England thrashed Panama 6-1 in Nizhny Novgorod with the temperature above 30 degrees Celsius.
“In this heat it would be easy to lose our self-control, I’m pleased that they have not done this,” Southgate said at the post-match press conference, stressing that England only received one yellow card through Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
England and Belgium are both top of their group and the winner of the clash between the two sides in Kaliningrad on Thursday will win Group G.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
