Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta said on Sunday that his team were "broken" following their loss to Russia in the World Cup round of 16 match.
The match, which was held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, ended in Russia's victory on penalties. The two teams drew 1-1 after extra time, but Russia beat Spain 4-3 on penalties and made it through to the last eight.
"We counted on a different [result], it's hard to accept this elimination. It's very hard, we need to analyze [the situation] thoroughly. We are simply broken by this result, that we couldn't make a step further. But it happens in football," Iniesta told journalists.
Spain have been eliminated from the tournament while Russia progress to the quarter-finals.
