The match will take place at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Monday (12am AEST) in Moscow.

"Spain play (the kind of) football that is clear to us. It's difficult to find ways to deal with it but we'll try. We've played against (former Spain head coach) Julen Lopetegui's men and now we can see changes under Fernando Hierro. I won't go into detail but the team plays differently," Cherchesov was quoted as saying by the FIFA official website.

Last time Russia played 2010 World Cup winners Spain in a friendly in November 2017 drawing with the Spanish side 3-3.

A day before the FIFA World Cup kick-off on June 14, the Spanish Football Federation announced that Lopetegui had been dismissed from his post for negotiating with Real Madrid without notifying the federation, replacing him with Hierro on the same day.

The tournament will continue until July 15, with the games being played in 11 cities across Russia.
