SOCCEROO Dario Vidosic is on-song when he's on the park, now the stylish striker reveals his musical ambitions to Aidan Ormond...
So, Dario, what keeps you busy outside of football?
I like other sports but I also like to DJ. I have my own decks - I’m waiting for them to arrive from Germany. It’s relaxing and I enjoy doing it as a way to get away from football.
How did you get into DJ culture?
A team-mate at [former club] Nuremberg, basically he was also a professional DJ.
And who was that?
Daniel Gygax [also known as DJ Dani Gygax]. He’d made an album but was also a national team player with Switzerland. He’s shown that you can be successful outside of football, be that DJing or other hobbies.
Tell us more…
He’s played at Love Parade in Switzerland [an electronic dance music festival]. He was very good and watching him I picked it up and enjoyed it. He’s a professional who’s been doing it a long time which helped.
How hard is it to actually mix tracks on the decks?
It’s quite difficult. I’d say I was a beginner, as I haven’t gotten into it as much as I’d once hoped, but now I’m in Australia [in the Hyundai A-League with Adelaide United], I might have a little more time.
What sort of tracks does DJ Dario play?
Mainly house, but I enjoy lots of other music too. I’ve set the goals to maybe get a start somewhere and after that I should be fine. I could play a school or maybe a chilled-out bar, something small. That's the goal...
I’m sure au.fourfourtwo.com would promote any gig of yours…
That’d be great. Just knowing that gives me that little bit of a push to give it a good go. Maybe in a year’s time we can see how it goes.
Mum and dad, how do they feel about the DJing?
They haven’t really heard it! But when they [the decks and sound system] all arrive I’m not sure if the neighbours will be happy.
And what labels are you wearing at the moment?
Nudie jeans. I’ve got a fair few of them.
Hair… what’s the latest look?
Just the standard cut, but maybe I might pull out an outrageous cut for round one of the Hyundai A-League!
