Croatia coaching assistant Ognjen Vukojevic who was suspended from his duties at the World Cup following controversial comments after his side's victory over Russia said he was "interested in football, not politics."
After Croatia beat Russia 4-3 on penalties in the World Cup quarter-finals, a video appeared on social media showing Croatia defender Domagoj Vida chanting "Glory to Ukraine!" and Vukojevic saying "This is a victory for Dynamo (Kiev) and Ukraine."
The Croatian Football Federation later suspended Vukojevic from his duties at the World Cup, while the FIFA Disciplinary Committee fined him $15,000 for unsporting behavior.
"I'm not interested in politics, only in football, honestly," Vukojevic told journalists when he was asked if he wanted to apologize for his actions.
Croatia beat England 2-1 in Moscow on Wednesday and qualified for their first-ever World Cup final, where they will face France on Sunday. Fans watching the match showed their disapproval of Vida whenever he touched the ball.
"All the stadium were shouting 'Croatia!', that's what I've heard. I don't want to discuss political issues now, sorry," Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the final between France and Croatia to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.
