Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist said on Monday that Russia had "played great" in their penalty shootout win over Spain.
Russia knocked 2010 World Cup winners Spain out of the tournament to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991.
"The Russian footballers played great yesterday, I'm glad that they won. I haven't congratulated them yet, as I'm focused on Sweden's performance," Granqvist sad.
Sweden will face Switzerland in the round of 16 game at the St. Petersburg Stadium on Wednesday morning AEST.
