MOSCOW, May 29 (Sputnik) - Swedish Ambassador to Russia Peter Ericson says he will attend all the games of his country's national team at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia even though high-level representatives from Sweden will not come for the tournament, Russian media reported Tuesday.
According to the Russian daily Izvestia, the ambassador added that the Swedish Embassy in Russia was organizing a series of cultural and business events in the 2018 World Cup host cities in collaboration with local authorities. One such event will be Swedish singer Jennie Abrahamson's concert in Nizhny Novgorod.
Sweden were drawn in Group F and will play against South Korea in Nizhny Novgorod on June 18, before facing current champions Germany in Sochi on June 23. Their last group-stage game will be against Mexico in Yekaterinburg on June 27.
According to the ambassador, some 5,000 Swedish fans are expected to watch each of these matches from the stands.
Russia will host its first World Cup from June 14 to July 15. The fixtures will be played at 12 stadiums across 11 cities.
